Capt. Jon Brooks

Capt. Jon Brooks Capt. Jon Brooks grew up on a small barrier island in southern NJ and was raised in the world of sportfishing. His father was a tackle rep and owned a small charter boat. He was raised on the docks and started washing the charter boats at a young age before he began mating on inshore boats and party boats. After graduating high school he worked on boats traveling the pacific coast of Mexico and Central America. He then moved back to New Jersey and mated on several private sportfish boats and was also a freelance captain. At 28 years old, Jon got his first full time captains job running a 52' Spencer called the "Good Grief". He's been running boats ever since. In 2012 Jon took over running the "Ditch Digger", which is now a 2017 72' Viking. They spend most of their time billfishing on the east coast of the US and around the Caribbean, including most of the south Florida sailfish tournaments. This year they won the prestigious Gold Cup sailfish tournament in Palm Beach, catching 38 sails in 3 days. They also spend time targeting yellowfin and bigeye tuna, as well as many inshore species like striped bass and fluke.
